High Tea At National Portrait Gallery London

If one loves art, tea, and good food, then one must go to the National Portrait Gallery’s high tea in London. This high tea takes places in the restaurant above the Portrait Gallery which is located in Trafalger Square. The cafe itself is located on the top floor and has a remarkable view which looks over all of Trafalger, and has a view of Big Ben.

The restaurant itself is very modern. If you were picturing a Jane Austin high tea with cozy seats and big fluffy hats on elderly women (you’d, like me, be sadly mistaken). However, their modern take on a historic past time is justifiable through great service and remarkable food and drinks.

The restaurants itself is not just for tea. One can get cocktails, or other types of food at certain times of the day. But, one can also submerge oneself in high tea where one will have multiple options of tea flavorings and will also be allowed to have their own tea pot. During the high tea, one will receive small finger sandwiches (which are actually quite filling) of cucumber, salmon topped with clovers, and also a roast beef open faced sandwich. And there is no need to fear if you are gluten free, like myself, because

then you get your own special tier of food. The tea will also give you scones, or cookies on the second level which one can dip in jam (or marmalade), and then one can move on to the top and final tier of desserts. Their options of fruity, chocolaty, tart, or extremely sweet food will cater to all taste buds. And the waiters, who all happen to be French men, are constantly coming and asking if you one needs anything or if one doesn’t like something.

This high tea was a joy to go to. And being in quite a large group when I went, I know for a fact that if you are among a large group of people, you will still get great service and be satisfied with it all. Above all I stress going to this high tea because it is modern, it has a great view, great food, amazing service, and is in a wonderful part of London. Needless to say if you get there before your group arrives you also have the option of wandering through the galleries which one could get lost in for hours on end.
